The Hospital as a Stage for Art and Culture
The Hospital Audiences project was implemented in Rio de Janeiro in 2009. It sees the hospital as a living space, and hence, as art. Doctors of Joy has created a special cultural program with activities involving adults and elderly people, as well as children and the communities surrounding the hospital. The project has been implemented at eight public hospitals and works in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Health Department of State.
In addition to acting as curators of the program, we also advise the selected groups about their presentations, which include a variety of artistic languages such as theater, music and circus, among others. As part of the project, workshops have been held with health professionals working at the hospitals that participated in the pilot project. Our aim is to enable the hospital to become increasingly a place that not only cares for sick people but also promotes good health.
